How to split by ratio
Enter the total at the top, then one weight per row (for example 2, 3, and 5—not percents). Each share updates instantly: total × (weight ÷ sum of weights).
Example
Total 100, weights 2, 3, 5 → 20, 30, 50 (also shown as 20%, 30%, 50% of the total).

Ratio vs fraction vs percent
Ratios describe relative parts before you know the total. Once a total is fixed, each share is a fraction of the whole—and those fractions can be expressed as percents. Example: 2:3:5 means 20%, 30%, 50% of any positive total. For “what percent is A of B?” use the percentage calculator; for exact rational parts try the fraction calculator.
Example: project budget
Budget $24,000 split across design:build:contingency = 3:5:2 → $7,200, $12,000, $4,800.
Example: inheritance with three heirs
Estate $480,000, shares 1:2:1 → $120,000, $240,000, $120,000. Enter total 480000 and ratio 1:2:1.
Limits
Negative parts are rejected. Zero-only ratios cannot split. The tool does not optimize rounding to whole currency units—round shares manually if cents must balance.
How do you split an amount by ratio?
Add the weights, then each share = total × (that part ÷ sum). Example: total 100 with weights 2, 3, 5 → 20, 30, 50. Use one weight row per part on this page.
How do you divide 100 in the ratio 2:3:5?
Sum is 10. Shares are 20, 30, and 50. Enter total 100 and type 2, 3, and 5 in the three weight rows.
How do you split 1000 between three people in ratio 2:3:5?
Same weights: 200, 300, and 500. Enter total 1000 and weights 2, 3, 5 in separate rows.
Do ratio parts have to add up to 100?
No. Only relative weights matter—2, 3, 5 gives the same split as 20, 30, 50. To express shares as percents of the total, use the percentage calculator.
How do you split profit between partners by ratio?
Enter the profit as the total and type each partner’s weight in its own row (e.g. 1, 2, 1 for three partners).
How do you split 10000 in ratio 1:2:1?
Sum is 4 → 2500, 5000, 2500. Enter total 10000 and weights 1, 2, 1 in three rows.
What is the formula for ratio allocation?
Share for part p = total × p ÷ (sum of all parts). The calculator applies this for each weight you enter.
Can ratio parts be decimals?
Yes—type 1.5, 2, and 2.5 in separate rows, as long as at least one weight is positive.
Ratio vs percent—which tool should I use?
Use this page for weights like 2:3:5 on a fixed total. Use the percentage calculator for discounts, tax rates, and “X% of Y”.
